Het Frietkot – Hua Hin

Beginning November 2008 the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws runs an article on a Belgian guy who opened a fry shop in Hua Hin on the Thai coast. In fact, he did not really open a fry shop but build a cart and sells fries at parties.

I was in Hua Hin 3 weeks ago but nobody seems to know him… Also no replies to my emails.

As the article Frietkot in Hua Hin (PDF) is in Dutch, I will try to translate the most important bits here:


I found the most suitable potatoes in Chiang Mai, some 600 km up north


Thai potatoes are sweeter and brown too quickly

I can confirm the last statement. Currently I am testing some potatoes in Bangkok but the results are somewhat disappointing. Maybe I should go to Chiang Mai too?
